Arbor Acres, located in the heart of Winston-Salem, is proud that our hometown has come in at the No. 6 spot of the top 50 best and most affordable places to retire in U.S.
GOBankingRates analyzed and ranked the 100 biggest U.S. cities based on the annual retirement income needed to cover basic costs, such as housing, food, transportation, utilities and healthcare. Cities were also rated on livability and only those where the senior population was 10 percent or higher were considered, with the top 50 making the final list.
“Winston-Salem is one of the best places to retire on a budget thanks to a cost of living that’s 18.7% lower than the national average. Housing is also really affordable here, at 37.5% less than the national average, or $11,795 per year,” the report states.
Four other cities in North Carolina made the top 50 list: Greensboro No. 10, Durham No. 39, Charlotte No. 42, and Raleigh No. 50.
