Arbor Acres’ residents, staff, and guests have contributed
$56,000 to benefit Senior Services of Forsyth County’s Meals-on-Wheels Program.
This is the 14th year the continuing care retirement community has hosted
a fundraiser for Senior Services. Senior Services President and CEO, Richard
Gottlieb, said the years of donations translate into more than 79,500 hot meals
for seniors in the community.
The annual event started 14 years ago as Edible Evenings
for Senior Services. Eleven years ago, Arbor Acres changed the event to include
its CAR themed theatrical performances. The original musicals, written by Arbor
Acres’ President and CEO, David Piner, have included themes such as CAR Wars,
CARmelot, CARdi Gras, CARtoons, Operation CARmed Forces and last year CARte
Blanche in Gay Pa’ree.
This year’s theme, CAR-lloween, was the fictitious,
musical story of a ghoul with a heart who despised watching his fellow graveyard
monsters prank seniors. Misguided magical spells and
musical comedy helped the story unfold as good conquered evil.
More than 30 residents and staff starred in the show
which was performed five times during the week of September 19th. Over 550
people attended the performances and gala which was held on Thursday, September
22nd. Including this year’s event, Arbor Acres’
residents, residents’ guests, and staff, have donated more than $467,000 to
Meals-on-Wheels since the first fundraiser.
When accepting the donation Gottlieb said, “we are
overwhelmed and inspired at the generosity, talent, and creativity of the Arbor
Acres community. What a fantastic group of people who are making lives better
for seniors who are less fortunate! We
can’t thank the leadership, staff, and residents of Arbor Acres enough for
their kindness and philanthropy.”
