Arbor Acres Raises $66,601.13 for Meals-on-Wheels

Arbor Acres’ residents, staff, and guests have contributed $66,601.13 to benefit Senior Services of Forsyth County’s Meals-on-Wheels Program. This is the 12th year the continuing care retirement community has hosted a fundraiser for Senior Services. Senior Services President and CEO, Richard Gottlieb, said the years of donations translate into more than 57,000 hot meals for seniors in the community.

The annual event started 12 years ago as Edible Evenings for Senior Services. Ten years ago, Arbor Acres changed the event to include its CAR themed theatrical performances. The original musicals, written by Arbor Acres’ President and CEO, David Piner, have included themes such as CAR Wars, CARmelot, CARdi Gras and CARtoons.

This year’s theme, Fort Arbor Acres: Operation CARmed Forces, was a musical salute to the nation’s military through the years. Using meaningful music, memorable quotes from our nation’s leaders and of course a little pop culture humor, the performance was a respectful remembrance of the sacrifice so many have made throughout history.  It also celebrated the armed forces responsible for making our nation what it is today.

More than 30 residents and staff starred in the show which was performed five times during the week of September 21st. Over 500 people attended the performances and gala which was held on Thursday, September 25th.   Including this year’s event, Arbor Acres’ residents, residents’ guests, and staff, have donated more than $354,000 to Meals-on-Wheels since the first fundraiser.

When accepting the donation Gottlieb said, “Arbor Acres is awesome!  All of us at Senior Services are overwhelmed at the dedication of the many Arbor Acres residents whose efforts, compassion and generosity make the Meals-on-Wheels fundraisers such a success and so much fun!  The decorators, food preparers, invitation designers, prop makers, volunteers, actors, fundraisers, and generous donors are all so appreciated and all who participate are ANGELS in our eyes.  In the words of one grateful Meals-on-Wheels recipient, ‘Meals-on-Wheels helps because without this service I would go hungry. I am housebound and have no one to help.  God bless all of you!” We couldn’t say it better,” said Gottlieb.
