Arbor Acres Receives $1 Million Gift

Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community has received its first $1 million gift from Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Strickland, current residents of Arbor Acres.  The commitment was made in support of those residents who require skilled nursing care. It will be the lead gift in the upcoming renovation of Fitzgerald, the healthcare facility located on campus. “Transforming the skilled nursing facility into a place of life-giving hope is Arbor Acres’ foremost goal at this time,” according to David Piner, Arbor Acres’ President. “The Strickland’s gift provides singular encouragement that this goal will be accomplished.”

Victoria Hunt, Chair of the Board of Directors, states, “We are both humbled and delighted by this generous donation.  Thankfully, we can now move forward with the renovation of Fitzgerald, the home of our most vulnerable residents.”

Betty and Bob Strickland have long been known for their philanthropic spirit and deep devotion to many different causes.  Both were touched to learn that Arbor Acres provides $1,300,000 annually in direct financial assistance to residents who require help with living expenses.  “We are delighted to support Arbor Acres’ ongoing mission of caring, and are particularly grateful to be able to help support a facility that will, we trust, be a haven for hope and healing.”

Arbor Acres Board of Directors, in recognition of the Strickland donation, has acted to rename its skilled nursing facility Strickland Place at Fitzgerald.  Upon completion, Strickland Place will be home to 83 residents, an increase from the present 65.  Fitzgerald is also a residence for 30 individuals who live in Arborview, the area devoted to care for residents who have dementia.

Piner attributes Arbor Acres’ historic success to the vision of its founders, sound financial management, generous philanthropy, and passion for service excellence. “The renovation of Fitzgerald and the development of Strickland Place represent Arbor Acres’ continuing commitment to serve the community at the highest levels possible.”
